Joshua Chefec’s career has not been built on one big break. It has been built on preparation, pressure, and the ability to turn hard situations into forward motion.

Who Is Joshua Chefec?
Chefec grew up in Great Neck, New York, a place he describes as “a pretty competitive and high-achieving environment.” That setting taught him early that pressure was part of growth.
He was a strong student, but his early life was not only about academics. He was also a serious clarinetist. In high school, he earned first chair and performed at Carnegie Hall multiple times.
“That definitely taught me how to handle a big stage and a lot of pressure at a young age,” he says.
He also played soccer, lacrosse, basketball, and tennis. Some sports taught him teamwork. Others taught him individual focus. Together, they helped him learn how to compete, adjust, and keep going.
Those lessons became useful later in business, where pressure often comes with no warm-up.
How Joshua Chefec Started in Finance
Chefec attended Tulane University in New Orleans. He graduated in three years with a finance degree, helped by 29 AP credits.
He started building real experience before graduation. While in school, he worked in wealth management offices. By his junior year, he landed an internship at J.P. Morgan in Asset & Wealth Management.
“That really set the stage for everything else,” he says.
After college, he joined FGI Capital. There, he worked on debt deals connected to private equity firms, leveraged buyouts, and recapitalizations. It was not easy entry-level work. It required focus, speed, and attention to detail.
“It was a deep dive into real transactions right away,” he says.
That early experience helped him understand how businesses make major financial decisions. It also taught him how important clear thinking is when the stakes are high.
Building Something From the Ground Up
One of Chefec’s most important career moments came at ExpoCredit. He was given the job of opening the company’s first New York office.
There was no simple playbook. He had to build the strategy, source deals, create relationships, and help execute transactions.
“I was responsible for the whole strategy, from sourcing deals to execution,” he says.
That role shaped how he thinks about big ideas. A big idea does not matter unless someone can turn it into a working plan. Chefec learned how to move from concept to action.
He later joined LSQ as a Regional Vice President. In that role, he focused on business development and partnerships with financial institutions. It gave him a wider view of how companies grow and how strong partnerships are built.
What Joshua Chefec Learned About Leadership
As Chefec moved into larger leadership roles, he became more focused on people.
He worked with mid-sized companies across industries such as retail, media, and manufacturing. Each business had different goals and challenges. That variety helped him understand that no two situations are exactly the same.
Between 2020 and 2022, he generated more than $9.5 million in new revenue and brought in dozens of new client relationships. In 2022, he earned “Club Elite” status, one of the top honors for bankers. In 2023, he was promoted to Executive Director after a full review process.
For Chefec, the results came from consistency.
“That performance came from staying focused and doing right by clients,” he says.
He later served as Market Executive, co-leading a team of nearly 30 bankers in New York. He also helped hire more than 20 team members.
“When I build a team, I want to ensure that there is diversity of thought,” he says. “That’s how you make better decisions.”
Why Diversity of Thought Matters in Business
Chefec believes strong teams are not built by hiring people who all think the same way.
Different viewpoints help leaders see problems more clearly. They also help teams avoid blind spots.
For Chefec, diversity of thought is practical. It improves judgment. It makes decisions sharper. It also helps people challenge assumptions before those assumptions become mistakes.
His leadership style is grounded in trust and follow-through.
“My industry is about doing right by people,” he says. “It’s about building trusting relationships and following your words with action.”
That approach has helped him lead through complex situations without losing sight of the people involved.
How Joshua Chefec Defines Success
Chefec’s career has included strong wins, but his definition of success is broader than titles or revenue.
He has also faced personal challenges. He has spoken about growing up in a difficult home environment and having to mature faster than others.
“I was forced to grow up much faster than others,” he says. “I overcame those things by being resilient and focused and going after what I want.”
That experience shaped his view of achievement.
“Success can only be defined by yourself,” he says. “It’s about being content with the sum of the parts of your life.”
Outside of work, Chefec enjoys skiing, tennis, cooking, boating, and scuba diving. He also supports financial education and career readiness through work with W!SE.
“Overall well-being is related to all aspects of life,” he says. “If you’re only successful in one area, you won’t find real satisfaction.”
